Focusers and Focusing Motors

ScopeTronix Flexi-Focus

   This new product solves two common ETX problems! It allows you to focus without the jitters and allows you to easily reach the focus knob even when the OTA is parallel with the forks! Since the new ETX/EC operates in Alt-Az mode there is a very large portion of the sky overhead where you can't reach the focus knob when viewing (unless you have fingers like chopsticks!). Don't let its extreme flexibility worry you, focus control remains fine and crisp with no backlash or rubbery feeling, the flexible shaft is extremely rigid on its rotational axis. The knob is comparable to our Deluxe Focus Knob pictured above. Installs in seconds with the included wrench. No jitters, easy access with the OTA vertical, fine control, and at a fraction of the cost of an electric focuser! This is the original ETX Flexible Focuser, thousands sold to satisfied customers since 1997! Beware of cheap imitations that use plastic knobs and cheap stiff cables. We use cnc machined solid aluminum knurled knobs and the finest quality rubber coated spring steel cable available so you can be assured of easy crisp focusing action with a minimum of transmitted vibration.

Meade #1209 Zero Image-Shift Microfocuser

   As included with all LX200GPS telescopes, but provided with a separate handbox for use with all other Meade (non-LX200GPS) SCT models (e.g., LX10, LX50, LX90, or LX200), or for Schmidt-Cassegrains of other brands. Operates at four speeds; accepts both 2" and 1.25" eyepiece barrels.

JMI NGF-DX2 2" Crayford Focuser

   The Next Generation Focuser (NGF) is a low-profile, friction-drive focuser designed for both the amateur and professional market. The highly acclaimed Crayford design permits tolerances up to 100 times better than conventional rack-and-pinion focusers. Zero image shift and zero backlash makes it fantastic for visual and photographic work and a must for CCD imaging. The DX2 has a higher vertical load capacity (up to 8 pounds) and a shorter travel speed than the DX3.

ScopeTronix Newtonian Focusers

   ScopeTronix offers two sturdy cast aluminum Newtonian Focusers, a 1.25" model and a 2"/1.25" model. These focusers feature smooth rack and pinion motion with internal teflon strips that let the barrel move very smoothly without any backlash or side-play. The 2"/1.25" focuser comes with a precision made 1.25" adapter that allows you to use 1.25" eyepieces in your telescope. 2"/1.25" Focuser Specifications: Mount Radius 10", Minimum Height 2.7", Maximum Height 4.2", Included 1.25" adapter adds 0.4" to height. 1.25" Focuser Specifications: Mount Radius 8", Minimum Height 3", Maximum Height 5.5".

ScopeTronix 2"/1.25" Crayford Focuser

   This Crayford focuser features a friction-drive that lets the barrel move very smoothly without any backlash or side-play. The focuser includes a precision made 1.25" adapter that allows you to use 1.25" eyepieces in your telescope. Both 2" and 1.25" ports include a compression ring. Specifications: Mount Radius 8", Minimum Height 2.9", Maximum Height 4.2", Included 1.25" adapter adds 0.4" to height.

ScopeTronix 2"/1.25" Refractor Focuser

   Here's a solid cast aluminum rack and pinion focuser for a refractor. This focuser will fit a 90mm tube. It comes with a dovetail groove so you can mount a standard dovetail finderscope bracket. It has a great deal of travel and has very smooth motion utilizing internal teflon guides for zero backlash or side-play.

MOTOFOCUS for Celestron NexStar 5 / 8

   The InstaFocus control unit snaps onto the hand unit allowing instant focus control without having to "surf" through menus.

Meade ETX Electric Focusers

   The Meade ETX electric focuser includes coarse and microfine speeds. When used with the ETX-90EC and ETX-105EC telescopes the focuser plugs into, and is powered by, the telescope's control panel, Focus control is either through the standard ETX Hand Controller or optional AUTOSTAR controller. For use with the ETX-90RA, the ETX90 electric focuser includes a focuser hand controller that accepts a 9-volt battery (9v batt. not included), the electric focuser plugs directly into the focuser hand controller. Note: Focuser hand controller is not needed for use with ETX-90 and 105models.

Meade #1206 LX Series Electric Focuser

   Meade electric focusers are uniquely designed to yield smooth, precise microfocusing of the image, without disabling the manual focus knob, which may be used for rapid coarse focusing. The #1206 plugs directly into the power panels of classic Meade LX200 models, with actuation from the hand controllers of these telescopes. The #1206 will work with the LX90 only if equipped with the APM unit.

Rigel Systems nFocus
Focus Motor Controller

   This new focus motor controller from Rigel Systems will give you a much greater range of control over your electric focuser. The nFocus uses Pulse-Width motor control so that even at the lowest speed setting the motor gets current. This means that you get smooth slow starts and fine control over motor speed. No more fast jerky starts like other focus controllers, no more overshooting your focus point.
