MaxView™ II as supplied with removable rubber eyeguard and Bolt-Style storage bottle.

The MaxView™ II eyeguard threads off to reveal an integral 58mm thread on top.

The massive (42mm diameter) multicoated triple element optics are mounted less than 2mm from the top for a super close optical coupling. The focal length is 40mm, this is a 2" eyepiece...you MUST have a 2" focuser to use it. It also features the unique sliding collar assembly like our MaxView™ 40 to allow you to adjust the camera lens to eyepiece distance for best results with all cameras.

The MaxView™ II pictured with it's little brother the MaxView 40. Both are 40mm focal length eyepieces. If you have a camera with a lens thread 37mm or larger and a telescope that accepts 2" eyepieces the MaxView™ II is the one for you. The MaxView™ 40 is still the best solution available for telescopes accepting only 1.25" eyepieces.

The MaxView™ II is threaded 58mm on top. It will thread directly into cameras with 58mm lens threads such as the Sony DSC- F707/F717/F828. We carry adapter rings to mate it to most other large lensed cameras (see below).

MaxView II vs. The Competition

The "Other" unit and the ScopeTronix MaxView II

To assure ScopeTronix is continually at the leading edge of product development we regularly purchase and test competitors products against our own. At the time of this test there is only one other 2" Digital Camera Eyepiece on the market, as pictured above left. Upon examining the "other" product we quickly noted several deficiencies right off the bat...before we even attached a digital camera. First, the "other" unit is so short that it requires the use of a 2" extension tube (at extra cost) to reach focus in most telescopes (this is even noted in their instructions, and as we found out during our testing using a TeleVue 85 it did in fact require an extension tube to reach focus. Between the diagonal, the eyepiece, the extension tube and the camera lens tube it quickly became an unwieldy setup). Second, the "other" product has no provision for adjusting the camera lens to eyepiece distance (a very important adjustment), the MaxView II's patented sliding collar mechanism makes this adjustment a snap. Third, the "other" unit did not include a thread-on eyeguard for use as a visual eyepiece. There are also other small differences such as lack of an eyepiece storage bottle, longer minimum camera lens to eyepiece distance, lack of a MaxPower type accessory and so on. In addition the adapters to attach the "other" unit are fixed length lens tubes (ours are adjustable length when necessary, such as when used with a Nikon 5700) and adapters to mate their unit to a camera are also either difficult to obtain or nonexistent. We have attachment kits (listed below) to attach the MaxView II to over 150 of the most popular camera models.

The test below was performed with a Nikon 5700 digital camera mounted on a TeleVue 85 telescope. The target was approximately 50 yards away. All photos are 100% unretouched with the exception of shrinking them (all equally) to 150 pixels in height to fit the webpage. Three different sets of pictures were taken to show 3 equal zoom positions. On with the test.....

Please Note: The MaxView™ II allows you to hook your digital camera to a telescope. A telescope that
accepts standard 2” eyepieces is required. The MaxView™ II is not a telescope in itself.
