MaxView DSLR Variable Projection Adapters

for Digital (& Film) SLR Cameras

1.25" MaxView DSLR (left) and 2" MaxView DSLR II (right),
a conventional projection adapter is pictured in center to show scale.

Welcome to the future of PROjection Astrophotography!

Finally... a variable projection adapter large enough to hold ANY eyepiece! Our MaxView DSLR will hold any 1.25" eyepiece and our MaxView DSLR II will hold any 1.25" or 2" eyepiece... yes even the huge 31mm Nagler and the 41mm Panoptic! Now you can use your best eyepieces for true variable projection astrophotography. But the size alone doesn't make it unique. These ultra versatile adapters can be used for prime focus, telenegative projection, eyepiece projection, and even afocal projection!

Yes, that's the monster TeleVue 31mm Nagler in the MaxView DSLR II!

Size does matter... you've invested a fortune in that Digital SLR and those large expensive eyepieces. The rock solid MaxView DSLR lets you use them together for true variable projection astrophotography. Works equally well with 35mm film camera bodies. Eyepieces can be changed out in seconds with no tools and your prized eyepieces won't suffer from set screw marks around the eyeguard lip as with other adapters. Dual perpendicular thumbscrews make sure the upper body is secure and perfectly aligned.

A 10mm TeleVue Radian doesn't begin to fill a 1.25" MaxView DSLR!

We didn't forget owners of smaller telescopes ... For owners of telescopes with 1.25" focusers the MaxView DSLR will allow you to use all of the larger 1.25" eyepieces that are excellent for eyepiece projection astrophotography such as the TeleVue Radians, Panoptics, Naglers and Pentax XL/XW series.

Both MaxView DSLRs use a standard "T"thread for camera attachment.

For use with any SLR camera body you just need a simple T-Ring for your particular brand of camera. The MaxView DSLRs can also be used for Afocal Projection on your SLR lens by using the appropriate size Step Ring to fit the filter thread of your SLR lens.

Both units include a MaxPower lens, the 2" version also includes a 1.25" eyepiece adapter.

We understand that lack of back focus can be a problem with some reflectors and refractors that have limited focus range so we include a removable MaxPower lens with every unit. The MaxPower lens also allows owners of all telescope types to perform telenegative projection or increase the image size during eyepiece projection. The body length of both MaxView DSLRs is highly adjustable so you can get just the image size you are looking for to fill the frame.

A note to owners of non-SLR cameras: To use the MaxView DSLR for Afocal Projection with non-SLR (fixed lens) cameras such as consumer point and shoot digital cameras see our extensive list of Attachment Kits. Please note: for use with fixed lens cameras we recommend you also purchase an eyepiece extension to assure you can closely couple the eyepiece and camera lens optically. While the MaxView DSLR can be used with these cameras for Afocal use only consider our MaxView 40 and MaxView II combination eyepiece/digital camera adapters which are specially made for use with these types of cameras and provide excellent results.

Please note: The Meade Series 5000 30mm UWA will not fit in a MaxView DSLR II.

ScopeTronix Adaptaview™

The Adaptaview U is a strong, light-weight machined aluminum ring with .75mm male T threads on top and three steel securing screws around the bottom. The ring is placed on top of the eyepiece (after the rubber eyeguard has been removed from the eyepiece). The three securing screws are then fastened finger-tight. The eyepiece is now transformed into its own eyepiece projection adapter assembly.

Adaptaview U - This adapter is very versatile and will fit most eyepieces with a removable rubber eyeguard and a top diameter (with the eyeguard removed) of less than 1.75". It is known to fit the following eyepieces....Tele Vue 32mm Plössl, 40mm Plössl, 55mm Plossl, All Nagler Type 2's and Type 4's, All Panoptics, and Radians. It also fits Televue and Vixen Zoom eyepieces and the following Meade eyepieces: UWA-8.8mm and 14mm, SWA-24.5mm, 32mm, 40mm and 56 Super Plossl. Useful for both 35mm and Digital Cameras (for digital camera use the eyepiece must have good eye relief to minimize vignetting). This unit is equipped with a standard male "T" thread on top.

Adaptaview 6 - SCT to 2" Push-Fit Converter - Many Accessories designed for SCT scopes can be used with other types of telescopes. This 2" diameter Push-Fit converter is threaded with SCT threads on one end and is designed for using Schmidt-Cassegrain accessories on telescopes with 2" push-fit focusers.

Parfocalizing Rings

These extremely useful rings have always been difficult to find, now we have them in stock in 2 sizes! Parfocalizing rings are used for several purposes. If you would like to make your non-parfocal eyepiece set parfocal you can put one of these rings on each eyepiece and adjust the height so that all eyepieces are at the same focus point, now when you swap eyepieces you won't need to refocus every time! They are also extremely useful when used with a flip mirror (like the one built into the ETX) for photography. To use a parfocalizing ring with a flip mirror you would first use the telescope focus knob to put your attached camera in perfect focus, now slide a ring over the eyepiece of choice and raise and lower the eyepiece in the holder until it is perfectly in focus. Once you find the focus point that is perfectly matched to the camera slip the ring down and lock it in place using the included wrench. Now you can focus using the eyepiece (much easier than a dim focus screen) and just flip the mirror and take a picture! Leave the ring in place on the eyepiece and you can always quickly and easily pop it back in for photography.

Eyepiece Projection Camera Adapter

Our inexpensive camera adapter fits into any 1.25" eyepiece port and can hold a moderately sized eyepiece within it for eyepiece projection photography. The eyepiece upper barrel can be no larger than 1.5" in diameter and no longer than 1.4" in length. Unlike "Prime Focus" astrophotography where you are just using the telescope as a large camera lens "Eyepiece Projection" allows you to increase the power by inserting the appropriate eyepiece into the adapter. You can also unscrew the nose and connect it directly to a T-Ring for "Prime Focus" shots.

Requires a T-Ring to fit your brand of camera (please see below).

Celestron Radial Guider

Specifically for use in prime focus, deep-sky imaging or astrophotography with Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes, the Radial Guider is compact and sleek in design. This accessory makes it possible to simultaneously photograph and guide through the optical tube assembly of your telescope. The Radial Guider also eliminates the problem of differential flexure, because you're both guiding and photographing through the telescope. The Radial Guider is compatible with Celestron's C5, C8, C9¼, C11 and C14 telescopes and comes with a unique prism angle adjustment screw. It must be used with a guiding eyepiece, camera T-Ring and drive corrector (dual axis preferred). Primarily for use with catadioptric telescopes, but also works on refractor telescopes having adequate back focus. This guider is a tremendous improvement over conventional off-axis guiders. Not only is the angle of the prism tunable, but it also maintains a fixed rigid camera orientation while still offering users the freedom to move the guiding eyepiece radially about 135°.
